Board and Elections


Starting 12:00am on Monday, March 20th, all Reddy Kilowatt Credit Union members who have a $100 equity share account are eligible to vote for up to three of the following individuals whom they feel will best represent their interests on Reddy Kilowatt Credit Union’s Board of Directors.

Sean Budgell Expand/Collapse

Nominee:  Sean Budgell

Sean is a dedicated Reddy Kilowatt Board member who demonstrates great interest in enhancing the credit union’s growth and development.  Sean is supportive of board member peers and seeks to understand the perspectives of others in the board decision making process.  Sean values collaboration, professionalism and service excellence.  Sean has been an active volunteer with Reddy Kilowatt Credit Union for 18 years and has been a Director for the past 6 years, most recently holding the role of Corporate Secretary.  Sean has completed the Credit Union Director Achievement (CUDA) program, which is focused on credit union corporate governance in Canada.  Sean has also served on Reddy Kilowatt’s Credit and Audit Committees.  This experience, coupled with his business education from Memorial University, has provided him with a strong knowledge and understanding of financial statements and management principles.

Sean is employed with Newfoundland Power and has honed his communication skills over the past 20 plus years as a facilitator for numerous training initiatives with the company.  These have included business presentations and Electrical Safety Presentations to various groups such as Fire Fighters, RCMP, Municipal Workers, Power Line Hazards Trainers, and the Canadian Armed Forces.

Since first being introduced to Reddy Kilowatt Credit Union, Sean developed a genuine appreciation for the positive relationship-building that he has experienced.  This rapport continues to be enhanced year after year, and it is the basis for which Sean is seeking re-election to the Board. 

“Collaboration and teamwork are natural skills for me and ones which I've brought to many organizations, including Reddy Kilowatt Credit Union. During my time as Director and Corporate Secretary, I have been a very active participant and volunteer. Coupled with my eagerness for continuous learning and strong belief in the guiding principles of Reddy Kilowatt, I feel that I remain a valuable asset to the role of Director. Robert Canning Expand/Collapse

Nominee: Robert Canning
Nominator: Sheila Burt

Son of a career banker, Robert grew up in Bishop’s Falls. He has been involved in his community for many years, serving in numerous capacities including organizational leadership roles, from sporting organizations to community administration. This year, he will be completing his second term as a town councillor with the municipality of Bishop’s Falls where he has taken on integral roles, such as Chairperson of the Finance Standing Committee and Public Works Standing Committee. In the position of the finance chair, he has worked tirelessly on the operation budget from production to implementation.

Robert  has worked at Newfoundland Power for 8 years and is currently a field services representative in Grand Falls Windsor and Gander. Through this position, he works with residential and commercial customers with regards to their accounts and credit issues.

While studying at the College of the North Atlantic, Robert was elected President of the CNA’s Student Union and was responsible for representing the needs of 7,000 students to the administration of the College. Whiles serving in the position, Robert represented CNA at the annual graduation in Doha, Qatar.
For the past few years, Robert has also been the chairperson of the Leo Brothers Memorial Softball Classic. All money raised by this tournament goes to aid patients battling cancer who are experiencing financial need.

Robert has been a Reddy Kilowatt Credit Union member since February 2013 and will be graduating from Memorial University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2017.

“I believe the experience I have gained through my many volunteer roles, my responsibilities at Newfoundland Power, and my education at both CNA and Memorial have prepared me well to represent Reddy Kilowatt Credit Union members on your Board. James Goodridge Expand/Collapse

James has been an active member of the Reddy Kilowatt Board of Directors for the past three years, working as the Board’s youth representative.  James has contributed his perspective and expertise on enhancing Reddy’s youth and young adult outreach, financial literacy initiatives and financial and accounting priorities.  James is a current member of the Board’s audit committee where he applies his professional and practical experience in helping advance Reddy Kilowatt’s risk management and financial control strategies. 

James is currently Manager, Accounting at Fortis Inc. and has worked extensively in financial reporting, planning, and forecasting.  Prior to joining the Fortis Inc. team, James worked for six years at Deloitte, an audit, consulting and financial advisory firm, and was a member of the organization’s senior audit staff responsible for credit union audits. Upon leaving Deloitte in 2013, James was Assistant Manager, Audit. 

Holding CA and CPA designations and coupled with his practical experience at Deloitte and Fortis Inc., James has extensive experience in accounting and finance. Further enhancing his qualifications, James recently completed his MBA with a focus in strategic planning.

James is an active community supporter and is currently a board member and mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters, as well as Treasurer of the Board for the Riverdale Tennis Club.

“Over the past five years, I have gained considerable knowledge of the credit union system, operations, policies, and procedures. I feel strongly that my work experience, knowledge, skill set, and work ethic can contribute greatly to the Reddy Kilowatt Credit Union Board. I am extremely passionate about Reddy Kilowatt and know that the board and management, both past and present, have built a strong foundation for future success. I respectfully ask for your support and vote.”

Glenn Samms Expand/Collapse

Nominee: Glenn Samms (Incumbent)
Nominator:  Neville Collins

While a long-serving Director with Reddy Kilowatt Credit Union, Glenn continues to bring a fresh and new perspective to the Board table.  He has a vast knowledge of the credit union system and has contributed to the growth and success of Reddy Kilowatt.  Glenn has a keen understanding of the strategic focus that is needed at the Board table and applies a supportive, yet pragmatic approach to decision making.   Glenn has been a member of Reddy Kilowatt Credit Union since joining Newfoundland Power 31 years ago.  He currently is chair of the Policy and Bylaw Review and Nominations Committee and is a graduate of the Credit Union Director Achievement (CUDA) program.  Glenn has also held the prior role of Corporate Secretary on the Executive Committee and worked as part of other Standing Committees through the years. 

In his professional life, Glenn is the Manager of System Control and Electrical Maintenance at Newfoundland Power and holds both a professional Engineering designation and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. 

“I have enjoyed serving on Reddy’s Board and am proud to be part of such a successful Credit Union.  I recognize that, despite our success, we will continue to face challenges in the upcoming years; including an aging membership and succession issues for both the staff and volunteers.  I am committed to working on your behalf and I would welcome the opportunity to continue to help guide the future successes of our credit union.
